If you want to go to KIT, get off at the Marktplatz stop (large sandstone pyramid on the left). Take Lines 1 or 2 towards Durlach, Line 3 towards Hauptbahnhof, Line 4 towards Waldstadt or S4 towards Bretten. Get off again at the Durlacher Tor (2 stops after Marktplatz). The Deutsche Bahn timetable information service (https://www.bahn.de/) gives you detailed information on how to come to Karlsruhe by rail.

... and in Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe has a very good public transport system. You can, of course, take a taxi if you wish. If you live in the city-centre it would be better to use the tram. During standard office-working hours a tram comes every 5 to 10 minutes. The Karlsruhe public transport system is run by the KVV (Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund) and so you only need one type of ticket for the various trams and buses. If you require further details please contact KVV (https://www.kvv.de/).
